Crewel (Ari) Collection
Crewel also known locally as ari, is a Kashmiri embroidery that travelled from Central Asia and took root in village homes. This collection is a quiet tribute to the rural artisans who have kept the craft alive for generations.
Worked by hand with a small hooked ari needle, fine woollen yarn is chain‑stitched onto a 100% cotton base. The stitch builds crisp, modern geometrics as naturally as it traces time‑honoured florals—versatility that sits at the heart of crewel.
Many pieces are made at home in the soft hours of the afternoon, a cup of salted noon chai by the maker’s side after the day’s chores. That unhurried rhythm lives in the cloth. Months later, when you pause with your own tea, the thread between their hands and your home is easy to feel.
Kashmir has weathered decades of uncertainty; craft offers steady income and the dignity of choice. With each piece you bring home, you carry a small part of the valley’s skill while helping sustain artisan families.
